Do I need a domain name to create my email account?
No. If you do not have a domain name we will automatically create your email account using one of our domains (example: yourname@crypticbox.com). If you have a domain name you can create your email accounts for this domain. The choice is entirely yours.

What type of email security do you offer?
CrypticBox mail uses SSL (secure sockets layer) to transport data between your browser and our mail servers. Our transport layer implementation is protected by 1024 bit security. SSL security prevents man in the middle attacks. That is a person cannot tap into the line to read your mail messages.

Secondly you can encrypt each of your mail messages with PGP public key encryption. PGP ensures that only the person who has your public key can read your messages. The mail recipient can encrypt the message with your public key and then only you (who has the private key) will be able to read the reply.

How many mail accounts can I create?
The Personal Premium and the Enterprise account lets you create up to 30 email accounts. The Enterprise Premium Account lets you create an unlimited number of email accounts.

I can't log into my account?
You have two passwords: one for your control panel and the other one for your mail account. These two passwords are identical until you change either one of them. The password for your email account is set in the email account (not in the control panel).

How do I confirm that my email account is working?
Send an email message to your account from another email account and send an email message from your account from another account.

I set up an email account but I can't receive any mail?
You set up an email account using a domain that you own. Before mail can be directed to the CrypticBox mail server you must log into the domain account provided by your Domain Registrar and change the address of the mail server for your domain to: smtp1.crypticbox.net

How do I set my password?
The password that you use for access to your email account is different than the password that you use to access your CrypticBox account. Set or change your email password by clicking on the password menu item of your email account.

How is my password stored?
For security reasons, CrypticBox does not store your password. A 256 bit secure hash of the password is stored. The password cannot be recovered from the hash.

I lost my password. What do I do?
Send technical support an email. We will have to generate a new password for your account.

How does encrypted email work?
You will use public key encryption for encrypted email. This is how it works. You generate a private key and a public key. The private key is kept by you. The public key can be distributed to anyone. To send encrypted mail to another party, you encrypt the email with this person's public key. Since this person holds his private key only he can can decrypt the email which was encrypted with his public key. Similarly if someone wants to send an encrypted email to you, he/she encrypts the message with your public key. Since only you hold the private key, only you can decrypt and read it.

Do both parties need email accounts on CrypticBox to use encryption?
No.

How do I distribute my public key?
It's automatic. When you generate a public and private key pair in Crypticbox, the public key is placed on Internet Key Servers and propagated through the entire Internet.

How do I generate a public key private key pair?
Step I: Enable Encryption
Make sure that you log into your account with SSL (https).

Click on Options/Mail in your mail account.
Click on PGP Options under the Other Options column.
Click on Enable PGP Options and save the setting.

Step II : Create A Private/Public Keypair
If you already have a keypair, import the keypair. Otherwise fill in the required data for key generation and Click on the Create Keys button.
Key creation will take some time so be patient.
After key creation, click on the Public KeyServer button. This will place your public key on internet PGP Keyservers for distribution on the Internet.
More detailed instructions are available in the PGP dialog box.

How do I send encrypted email?
In the New Message dialog select the Encryption Option: Encrypt With PGP. In order to send the message, CrypticBox must have the recipient's public key in it's key ring or it must be able to retrieve the Recipient's public key from a keyserver. CrypticBox will automatically search keyservers for the receipient's public key and if found will add the key to the sender's keyring.

How do I send attachments with my mail?
In your mail dialog box, browse for your file and then press update to attach the file to the mail message.

Do you keep any logs?
No. We do not maintain any logs.

Can I use my email account to store confidential records?
Yes. You can keep confidential records such as medical and financial records in your account in encrypted PGP form. Email your PGP encrypted records into your email account.

Will my email account contain any banners or advertising?
No. Your account is completely private.
